Michigan-based writer, painter and photographer…
I live in a beautiful town called Saint Clair in Michigan, which is on the very eastern edge of the “thumb” area, right across from Canada. For the past 40 years, I have managed a translation company, but 30 years ago, after being a relatively decent oil painter in my leisure time, I decided to get more serious about photography because that medium called to me. A professional photographer friend recommended a particular manual (film) camera because he said it would force me to learn how to set everything to get the best image. I will be forever grateful for that advice. Fast forward 30 years to the digital age and I’m still learning, but it’s oh so nice to not worry about film cost and developing.
I like everything. I like architecture, still life, nature, the US national parks, and for the last several years, the massive and graceful freighters that pass by on the Saint Clair River. At this point (October, 2022), I have collected 346 different ships, including a few Coast Guard cutters, tugs and two or three river cruise ships.
